What standards should we expect from governments?

We are delegating our pooled authority to politicians and officials. We should expect the best standards including

• honesty
  
• openness
  
• compliance with the law
  
• acting according to instructions given and commitments made.
  

We should expect these standards because we would not choose anything less if we were given a choice.

They are the same standards as are expected of citizens in paying their taxes, and as are expected when politicians and officials are paid.
